Covid Update: More venues of concern and another lock down

THERE were a record 133,840 covid tests conducted in the past 24 hours, with 283 new locally acquired cases confirmed, 64 of which were infected whilst in the community, 349 people hospitalised with covid-19, 67 of which are in intensive care, 27 of those are being ventilated and a woman in her 90s who was in palitative care has died. 

The epicentre of the virus transmission remains the Canterbury-Bankstown local government area.

Tamworth lock down: While there have been no cases identified in Tawmorth,  it will enter a snap seven day lock down at 5pm today, following a young woman who was infected travelling from Newcastle to Tamworth on August 4 and August 5. Please note this young woman did not travel from a lock down area, as Newcastle did not enter lock down until 5pm the following day, after she had returned from Tamworth. Newcastle exposure sites: When the young woman who was infected and travelled between Tamworth and Newcastle, also visited the following venues which are now classified as casual contact venues. People who have visited these venues at these times need to isolate immediately and await a negative test:

  • Habesha Ethiopian Restuarant, The Junction: July 31 – August 5.
  • Mr Rice Takeaway, Cooks Hill: August 4, 3pm – 3:20pm.

Byron Bay area: A man in his 50s, who has tested positive to Covid-19, travelled to the Byron Bay area from Sydney at the end of July. The man did not use QR codes at venues and NSW Health contact tracers are working to identify the venues he has visited. Residents of the Northern Rivers community are encouraged to come forward for testing.
