Rangers and Shelters

Dogs and cats need to:

  • be micro-chipped by 12 weeks of age, and
  • be registered by six months of age.

Local veterinarians can implant microchips and throughout the year local rangers offer free micro-chipping days. Check with Council when the next day will be held. T: 02 6540 1100.

TO REGISTER YOUR PET: go to the Upper Hunter Shire Council with your microchip certificate or letter from your vet and a certificate that your pet has been de-sexed if it is relevant. Farm dogs do not have to be micro-chipped and registered, however micro-chipping is still recommended to help reunite lost animals with their owners. For more information on registration, including forms, visit the Upper Hunter Shire Council website.

UPDATE YOUR DETAILS:
It is important to update your contact details on your pets microchip. Many pets have outdated contact details and their owners are unable to be found. To update your details complete a change of address form and take it to a Council office.

GIVE THEM A COLLAR:
Fortunately Scone has many good Samaritans who help lost and injured animals and it is much easier for them to call their owners, if they have a collar with up to date details.
