Firies appreciated support, especially the Freddos

THE Rural Fire Service was thankful to the Scone community for the support shown to their fire crews throughout the Scone Mountain fire.

Deliveries of water, sports drinks and cooking were appreciate, but a delivery of Freddo Frogs went down very well.

The Green Seed Grocer and Dawson’s Real Estate got the ball rolling with donations to the firies and inspired other members of the business community and residents to pitch in.

The organisers specifically targeted non-perishable items such as water and sports drinks, so that after the Scone Mountain fire the goods could be stored at local stations and on hand for the rest of the fire season.

Some of the businesses who assisted included Scone Discount Pharmacy (Ben’s), Chemist Discount Centre Scone (Wally’s), Riversdale Farm, Coles, Woolworths, Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre, Scone RSL Club, Valley Fasteners, Black Rock, Upper Hunter Rideshare, and a special mention to some local school children who made sandwiches and wrote notes to the firies.

“Everyone who helped with the fire needs to be thanked and remember most of them were volunteers, all of our own local firies were amazing and backed up by other volunteers who traveled away from their own areas in the Blue Mountains, Orange and around the state to help save us,” said Charlotte Boss from Dawson’s Real Estate.

“It really was a huge effort by so many people and the deliveries from the community were really appreciated,” Ms Boss said.
