Update: Meads Creek Fire – Thursday

THE Meads Creek fire south of Merriwa is still active along the northern side adjacent to Turnbridge Road and Flight Springs Road and while there is currently no threat to property, residents are urged to remain vigilant and monitor conditions closely.

Ringwood Road (Wollara Road) remains closed.

There is a severe fire danger rating forecast for today and tomorrow, with extremely hot, dry and windy conditions expected. 

In these conditions fires can be uncontrollable, unpredictable and fast moving.

Back burning operations are continuing along Rongwood Road (Wollara Road), which will produce more smoke in the area.

Firefighters are being supported by firebombing aircraft and machinery establishing containment lines.

The RFS will provide a community briefing on the Mead Creek and Oakey Creek fires today:

• When: 3:30pm, Thursday, December 5, 2019.
• Where: Merriwa RSL, 120-126 Bettington St, Merriwa.
