Update: Accident near Merriwa

THE Westpac Rescue Helicopter team is treating a 22 year old female, who is in a critical condition, with serious leg and arm injuries after her car collided with a truck on the Golden Highway, south of Merriwa this afternoon.

The accident between the car and truck occurred at approximately 2:10pm, 10 kilometres south of Merriwa.

The truck driver did not sustain injuries.

Update: The Westpac Rescue Helicopter team are airlifting the 22 year old driver and sole occupant of the car to the John Hunter Hospital, in a stable condition. They further confirmed the patient had been trapped in her vehicle for “a considerable amount of time.”

LiveTraffic recommend motorists avoid the area and have issued the following diversion advice:

Westbound light vehicle diversions are via Denman Road through Muswellbrook, New England Hwy through Scone, then Scone to Merriwa Rd. Eastbound is the reverse. Heavy vehicles are being held on site.
