Turn your clocks back tomorrow
IT’S that time of year again when daylight savings draws to an end and everyone in New South Wales can take comfort in gaining that extra hour of sleep.
Sunrise and sunset will arrive about one hour earlier on April 4 than the day before which means you should turn your clocks back one hour on Saturday night to avoid waking up like ‘The Walking Dead’.
What is daylight savings you may ask? Daylight savings was invented to literally make greater use of daylight. Countries near the equator have approximately 12 daylight hours, splitting the 24-hour day evenly.
Countries closer to the North or South Pole, like Australia, experience longer periods of daylight during Summer, so if you travel to northern parts of Europe or Canada, you could expect sunsets around ten and 11:00 pm at ‘night’.
Therefore these countries practice advancing clocks during the warmer months so that darkness falls at a later clock time and rewind clocks during cooler months to make use of the minimised daylight hours.
In Australia, daylight savings starts again just before the Summer season begins on Sunday, October 3, 2021, at 2:00 am.
So for those overly organised people, you can set an alarm to turn the clocks forward one hour on Saturday, October 2.
