Nationals pass over Sue Moore for Layzell
THE National Party have selected their candidate for the upcoming by-election and in a shock move have passed over the experienced Mayor of the Singleton Shire, Sue Moore, for a young construction worker from Clarence Town, David Layzell.
John Barilaro, Leader of the NSW Nationals said Mr Layzell as a Councillor on Dungog Council, had given one of the most impressive speeches to the party he had heard, explaining Mr Layzell “represents one of those regions that understands land conflict and mining, but supported mining, supported farming, agriculture and vineyards and equine.”
Editor’s Note: Mr Layzell has not been a Councillor on Dungog Council, he ran for Council but was unsuccessful. His father-in-law, John Connors, was the Mayor of Dungog Council.
Mr Barilaro said the Nationals would prosecute a case about what they have done and what they can achieve.
Mr Barilaro said they had “leaned some stuff tonight and we’ve been talking to Sue Moore about the Singleton bypass and I ran into the Mayor, or the former-Mayor of Muswellbrook, Martin Rush and talked about the Muswellbrook interchange and the stuff that we’ve got to do right and fix…we’ll get there.”
