Scooter Users Create Local Register

YESTERDAY scooter users rolled into an information session held by the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre to identify problem areas for local scooter users and hear from police about how the road rules apply to scooters.

Lee Watts, manager of the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre said people were keen to be part of the new scooter register.

“We asked them to identify the main businesses and locations they go to so they are the places we can put forward to Council and say that these are the main tracks that scooters are being used on, so these are the areas that need to be fixed first,” said Mrs Watts.

“We’re not getting the register to send out information, just to help show where there is the most need for funds to be spent for scooters,” she said.

“Council hasn’t allocated their funds this year yet, so this can help decide where funds are best spent,” she said.

“The register is a good thing because the more numbers you have the more chance you have of getting things done,” she said.

“The police gave a talk on safety and said you are only allowed to go a certain speed, that anyone can use a scooter and there was a whole range of things some people weren’t aware of.

“People had plenty of questions and got their answers, so it was good,” Lee Watts said.

To become part of the register contact the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre: on 02 6545 2562 or visit the Centre at 130 Liverpool St, Scone.
