Scone netballers score new courts
TOMORROW morning local netballers will play on four newly reconstructed courts at the Bill Rose Sports Complex in Scone.
The first game will be played at 10 am, followed by an official opening by Minister for Education, The Hon. Sarah Mitchell at 11:30 am.
Upper Hunter Shire Mayor, Maurice Collison said the courts will help attract new players to the sport and will cement the continued growth and sustainability of netball within the Upper Hunter Shire.
“This project will ensure local sportspeople have high quality community spaces to play in, it will bring further scope to hold larger competitions, attracting people to visit the region and it will bring people together, encouraging active lifestyles,” Mayor Collison said.
Upgrades included extensive sub-surface drainage and sub-grade improvements, full pavement reconstruction, new asphalt, acrylic court surfacing, line marking, and telescopic height adjustable poles, allowing the courts to meet the required design standards outlined in the 2016 Netball Australia National Facilities Policy.
The $500,500 upgrades have been jointly funded by the Scone Netball Association ($60,000), the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund ($250,000) and the Upper Hunter Shire Council ($190,500).
