Scone Golf Report: Oct 16 – 22

On Saturday, October 21 at Scone Golf Course the men’s championships commenced. In ideal playing conditions and with the course well prepared the scores were very good. Conditions were far more difficult on Sunday with howling winds. Playing fabulous golf Wes Boyd has established a nine shot lead with his round of 4 under par 68 in Round 2 following his 2 under par 70 in Round 1. He leads from Mac Dawson 73, 74 and Matt Hobbs 72, 75.

In B Grade Mick Soper had a fine round on Saturday with 78 and followed up with 83 in Round 2. Bardie Badenhorst and David Druce were consistent and sit one and two shots back having had 82, 80 and 82, 81 respectively. Robert Ryan leads C Grade by two shots to Seb Curry with George Campbell a further five shots in arrears. In the Senior event Mick Alsleben on 153 leads David O’Donnell by five shots with both Charlie Wintle and David Druce a further five shots behind.

The nett events are also very close with Bardie Badenhorst and Seb Curry both in the lead on 136 with Mick Soper a shot back and David Druce two further back.

The winner of the Scone RSL Group Monthly Mug Saturday October 21 was Mick Soper who had 66 nett.

The grade prizes were won with great scores of 67 nett. Jono Keep won A Grade, Brody Wilson B Grade and Seb Curry C Grade.

The Domino’s Pizza NTP’s went to Geoff Barton on the 4th at 1.55 metres;  Jeff Harrington on the 8th at 5.21 metres; Jock O’Connor the 13th at 2.39 metres and Charlie Manning the 17th at 6.14 metres.

The ball winners were: Mick Soper 66, Seb Curry, Jono Keep, Brodie Wilson 67, Mick Reynolds, Robert Ryan, Clayton Rogers 68, Bardie Badenhorst, Daryl Dutton, David Adams 69, David O’Donnell, Charlie Manning, David Druce, Mac Dawson 70, Matt Hobbs, Chris Bowman, Jim Hobbs and Wes Boyd 71 nett on a countback from Jock O’Connor.

On Sunday, ​October 22, the 18 Hole Stroke round was also the first Dr Jim Elder Memorial Day sponsored by Brad Baker. The prize winners all had great scores under 70 nett. Bardie Badenhorst was the winner of the trophy and he was also the B Grade winner with 68 nett. The A Grade winner was Wes Boyd 69 nett on a countback from Mick Alsleben and Scott Reid won the C Grade prize with 69 nett.

The Domino’s Pizza NTP’s were won by Mick Alsleben 3.62 metres; Mick Curry 1.48 metres; Seb Curry 1.9 metres and David Druce 2.41 metres.

The championships will continue with two rounds next weekend.  

Thursday, October 19 the lady golfers had ten men join them to make a field of 31 players in the first Mixed and Ladies 18 Hole 2B & Individual Stableford sponsored by Cheryl Clydsdale and Judy Collison. The scores were outstanding with the 2 Ball winners being Annie Woods & Mick Soper who had a fabulous 53 points! Annie’s 46 points contributed vastly. Sue Williams & Jono Keep also had an excellent score of 50 points. The individual winner was Sid Collison with 42 points on a countback from Cath Payne. Jono Keep won the NTP on the 13th and Annie Woods cleaned up the Birdie Box also on the 13th but it was only worth one ball.

The ball winners were: Annie Woods 46, Sid Collison, Cath Payne 42, Sally Archibald, Kathy Robinson 40, Sue Williams, Neil Clydsdale, Julie Leckie 39, Charlie Wintle, Jono Keep 38, Nickie Cramsie, Mick Soper, Mick Alsleben 37, Dordie Bragg 36 and Cheryl Clydsdale 35 points on a countback from Red Palmer.                                                                    

A small field contested the weekly 18 Hole Medley Stableford concluding Friday October 20, with the winner being Tyler Jordan with 43 points. He also won a ball along with David Bradshaw 37 and Graham White 36 points.

In this week’s golf at Scone the ladies will play an 18 Hole Stableford sponsored by Julie Leckie and the Medal of Medals will also be played. After golf the final of the Julie Leckie Putting Championship will be played between Dordie Bragg and Mary Brennan.

On Saturday and Sunday, October 28 and 29 the men’s championships will continue with sponsorship from Bill Pumpa on Saturday for the Herb Phelps memorial day. On Sunday the sponsors are the Phelps Family. As usual the weekly Medley Stableford competition will conclude on Friday October 27. On Tuesday, October 24 the Mixed Pennant team will play against Maitland at The Vintage.
