Scone Golf Report – March 2 – 7

On Saturday, March 5, the Scone golfers played an 18 Hole Stroke / Stableford for the Monthly Mug sponsored by the Scone RSL Group. On a damp course Jeff Harrington had a splendid round to be the clear winner with 68 nett. His scratch score of 75 also won him the newly introduced Dawson Estate Agents scratch prize.

The A Grade winner was Michael Morton who had 36 points. Gordon Halliday won B Grade with 34 points and Russell Jukes won C Grade from Geoff Ferguson on a countback when they both had 37 points.

The NTP’s were won by Clayton Rogers on the 4th at 7 metres and by Jeff Harington on the 8th just outside a Jackpot at 1.04 metres. The 13th was won by Ross Banks, 7.1 metres and the 17th by Michael Morton, 2.92 metres.

Ball winners were: Jeff Harrington 41, Russell Jukes, Geoff Ferguson 37, Michael Morton 36, Lindsay Hodge, Lyn Banks, Gordon Halliday 34, David Bradshaw, Brody Wilson 32 and Clayton Rogers 31 points on a countback from Sid Collison, Neil Clydsdale and Phil McGuirk.

On Thursday, March 3, also in heavy conditions and occasional light rain, the ladies played an 18 Hole Stroke / Stableford for the 1st Monthly Medal & 1st Golf NSW Medal Round sponsored by Melanie’s Jewellers and Mitani Café. The winner with a fine score of 69 nett was June Jukes. Cath Payne with 71 nett was the runner up on a countback from Lyn Banks, however Lyn won the “Wine O’Clock Putting” sponsored by Julie Leckie with 26 putts. Cath Payne won the NTP on the 13th.
The Best Scratch score winners in each division kindly sponsored by Dordie Bragg were: Division 1 Lyn Banks 79, Division 2 Leanda Nutt 109 and Division 3 Mandy Fisher 109.

Balls were won by: June Jukes 39, Cath Payne 38, Lyn Banks 37, Dordie Bragg 36, Mandy Fisher 35, Fiona Simson 34, Yvonne Palmer and Dinie Bishop 31 points.

Visitor Hugh Llewelyn won the Wednesday 18 Hole Medley Stableford sponsored by Scone RSL Group on March 2. He beat Graham White on a countback with both players having 36 points. Balls went to these players plus Lyn Banks 34, Ross Banks 33, Tom Hagan and Charlie Wintle 31 points on a countback from Kevin Martin.

The Hunter River District Pennants matches were affected by rain as two courses were unplayable on March 6. A Grade was washed out at Singleton against Hunter Valley as was C Grade at Branxton against Muswellbrook. B Grade defeated Kurri at Muswellbrook 3/2 with wins to Andy Thrift, Brad Baker and Scott Shann but losses to David Druce and Paul McLoughlin. The senior team traveled to Denman but they were unable to match it with Murrurundi, losing all three matches.
The ladies round scheduled for Monday, March 7 at Singleton was also abandoned against Cypress Lakes.

On Sunday, March 13, the A Grade team plays Muswellbrook at The Vintage, Scone plays Paterson at Singleton in B Grade and in C Grade Scone plays Branxton at Muswellbrook. The Senior team plays Denman at Branxton.

On Monday, March 14 the Scone ladies will host the round and the course will be closed until 1pm for any social play.

This week at Scone Golf Club players can compete in the Wednesday Medley Stableford competition on March 9. On Thursday March 10 the ladies will play an 18 Hole Stableford sponsored by Amanda Paradice. On Saturday March 12 Scott Reid will sponsor the 18 Hole Stableford and it will also be Round 1 of the President’s Trophy.
