“It’s always tragic when you have a local person killed in an accident – of course when there are this many people involved it sends ripples through the whole community,” said Guy Guiana Hunter Valley District Chief Inspector, of the triple fatality which occurred in Muswellbrook last night.

“As the news spreads people will be devastated – there were a lot of people who knew them and it will have a big impact on everybody,” said Chief Inspector Guiana.

Robert Baker, a well-known local rideshare operator was driving two regular passengers home, husband and wife Brad and Tracey Strachan, when his Kia collided with a utility on Bengalla Road, Muswellbrook at approximately 9:30 last night.

Driver, Robert Baker and Tracey Strachan, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, both died on scene, while Brad Strachan was flown to the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle where he remains in a critical condition.

Police said the 30 year old driver of the utility, who also passed away on scene, was also a local man who worked in the area for Keldan Automotive.

The police established a crime scene last night, their investigation is continuing and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
