Mangoola men raise over $12,000 for Beyondblue
MANGOOLA mine employees Troy Greedy and Mark Yarrington embarked on a fundraising journey for Beyondblue over the weekend, which saw them raise $12,765 for the suicide awareness charity.
The Mangoola men took on the four-day Bitumen Rally car charity event, raising money whilst driving through the New England from Tamworth to the mid north coast in a 1982 Mercedes named ‘The Thirsty Mere.’

The pair chose to participate in Beyondblue’s biggest fundraising event three years ago after hearing the Bitumen Rally origin story, which started after a family lost their daughter to suicide.
“Mental health is just such a big thing these days,” Troy Greedy said.
“It’s the silent killer because people are not showing that they aren’t right in their head or personal space and it’s going to be on top of you before you know it,” he said.
“We’ve had a couple of incidents at Mangoola with a couple of operators taking their own lives,” he said.
“We chose Beyondblue for the sheer fact of the work they do . . . they deal with a lot of families and people with issues and they just do a fantastic job, it’s just a great cause,” said Mr Greedy.
The $12,765 raised will go towards helping Beyondblue achieve a greater awareness of depression, anxiety and suicide in our society.
“My goal was actually $10,000 this year because it’s been a bit funny with Covid-19. I didn’t think we’d end up with this much,” Mr Greedy said.
“The [donation] page is predominately up all of the time, people can always donate to it,” he said.
