Letter to the editor: Greyhound racing
Dear Editor,
I note the appearance of John Barilaro, Dominic Perrottet and Kevin Anderson at Muswellbrook recently, demonstrating their latest backflip on Greyhound Racing. In the midst of a by-election they prove that there is no limit to how shameless they’re willing to be.
There is an obvious air of arrogance in their treatment of people in the Upper Hunter. They believe that they can pull the wool over our eyes. They presume that we will all forget that they voted to ban greyhound racing backing in 2016, causing enormous upheaval for thousands across the Upper Hunter and wider Hunter Valley.
At that time Mr Barilaro said in Parliament “As a Cabinet Minister I supported the decision to end greyhound racing … this is the correct decision … I stand by the Government’s decision.”
If they genuinely respect us, they wouldn’t treat us like fools. Their treatment of the greyhound racing community in the past – and now pretending to be the friend of greyhound racing during the by-election is an embarrassing blight on each of them. And it tells you plenty about their integrity and trustworthiness.
Clayton Barr
Shadow Minister for Greyhound Racing
