Covid update: Lockdown extended

PREMIER Gladys Berejiklian has extended the Greater Sydney lockdown until 11:59pm on Friday, July 30.

There has been 97 new local cases recorded over the past 24 hours, with 24 of those cases infectious within the community and 36 under investigation. 

So far, 71 people have been hospitalised, with 20 currently in intensive care, including one person aged in their 20s, two in their 30,s, two in their 40s and five in their 50s.

Premier Berejiklian urged residents in lockdown areas to stay at home and obey Public Health Orders.

“At this stage given the majority of cases are in the Fairfield, we need those adjoining council areas where people interact between to also reduce their mobility. That means stay at home. Don’t leave the house unless you absolutely have to,” Ms Berejiklian said.

Currently, there are no new active cases and no areas of transmission concern in the Upper Hunter.
