Children’s Lives in Danger at Busy Liverpool Street
KIDS lives are being put at risk by Roads and Maritime Services’ lack of attention to appointing a crossing marshal for Scone Public Primary School’s busy Liverpool Street.
Children have been left to their own resources for the last four months to cross the busy thoroughfare without supervision.
“I’ve spoken to teachers at the school . . . they tell me that kids are nearly getting hit,” Louise Johnson told scone.com.au.
“I can’t go to Woolworths or Coles or walk up the street without a parent or teacher stopping me and asking about the crossing ands when they’re going to replace it.
“The school has contacted the police, they’ve contacted the Council . . . they’ve tried, but nothing has been done.
“It’s going to take until a child gets hit, before they do anything.
“If a child gets hit, I’ll never forgive myself for leaving the job.”
Previous marshal Ms Johnson said the authorities didn’t even inform the school she was leaving, she had to tell the school herself,
“I’d already line up my nephew to take over for me, I would train him because I trained everybody and by the time I was going to leave the job, somebody would have been there,” she said.
“They said, ‘no that’s not protocol, we have to advertise it’.
“My nephew then applied for the job and only heard back two weeks ago, but it was too late as he’s already got another job.
“The job is now expired and is not being advertised.”
Scone.com.au sought comment from The Roads and Maritime Services but it was not forthcoming in time for publishing.
