Upper Hunter 24 hour rainfall totals

RAINFALL swept the Upper Hunter overnight, with almost all areas receiving more than ten millimetres within a 24 hour period.

Murrurundi took the highest catchment, recording 29 millimetres, closely followed by Stoney Creek which recorded 28 millimetres.

Bunnan also faired well, receiving 22 millimetres, as did Upper Rouchel with 21 millimetres.

Rainfall is expected to to continue tomorrow, with overnight temperatures expected to drop as low as 2 degrees.

Snow is also expected to fall anywhere above 500 metres in the Upper Hunter and 900 metres elsewhere however, Hunter Valley Police have urged snow goers to steer clear of the Barrington Tops this week, as Forest Road remains closed due to extensive structural damage from the March flooding disaster.

Police say there is an extreme safety risk in travelling on less frequently used roads, which will be slippery, icy and unsafe, particularly as these routes not designed to cope with a huge influx of vehicle movement.
