What to Wear to the Scone Cup
scone.com.au sought expert advice on what to wear to the Scone Cup, from Anthea O’Connor former Melbourne editor of Vogue Australia for more than 20 years and regular fashion commentator including reporting for Channel 7’s Spring Racing Carnival. Even more impressively she is the cousin of the editor of scone.com.au.

The Dress Code for a race meet – whether it be a country or city race day is always the same.
Ladies need to look for race wear that offers structure and form in its silhouette, a tailored jacket or blazer worn over a well cut dress (of appropriate length!) or great skirt is the winning ticket in my style book.
I love a statement dress worn with a well cut blazer over the top.
The tailored blazer adds polish and dresses up the look for the day whilst also providing warmth and an extra layer if the weather is a little unpredictable.
I really love the new “midi-length” which is a mid calf length, its super elegant and chic in either a dress or statement skirt.
I also love pants for a race day, again worn with a fabulous statement top and well cut jacket I think this is super stylish option and one I often wear.
Shoes are the key factor on race day – a great wedge or block heel are the answer as they will avoid the dreaded ‘stiletto heels stuck in turf’ routine.
A block heel is the perfect partner to the new midi length also.
Shoes definitely need to stay on until you get home!
Remember – the races are a daytime event that gives women (and men) an opportunity to dress up and feel great, it isn’t a night time cocktail event so avoid skin tight mini length dresses that will look ridiculous in the broad daylight!
Race days call for an elegant and sophisticated fashion look.
