Word on Septic
THIS week’s word on the street goes to Will Wallace for his lead on the closure of septic services in the Upper Hunter Shire Council area.
While Council, Mayor Bedggood and Deputy Mayor Collison have not answered our questions about the closure, a statement issued on Friday night inferred it may now be a “service interruption”.
Several other sources also came forward with information about the closure, including ongoing environmental breaches.
Council did not raise and document the closure through the correct process of the Works and Technical Services committee or in the broader general Council meeting and nothing relating to the closure was placed on the public record.
Accountability of public office is an important function of independent media, we would welcome leads which ensure transparency of local government and will provide anonymity of source when appropriate.
