Word Goes To…
THIS week’s Word on the Street goes to…well we can’t say, but they will be given $50 for the story lead they gave us on the job cuts at the local meat works.
The employee was not only concerned about the number of local people who were being sacked but also the many workmates who were 457 visa holders, who were devastated at the thought of leaving our community, many of whom had been here for some time and have their families with them.
The community also clearly cared about the job cuts with more than 10,000 impressions, or views of the story, being tracked.
The lead allowed scone.com.au to break the story more than six hours before any other media and timeliness is always key to a good story.
Also of note was the lead for the story “Highway Man Passes Through”, from Amanda Albury.
She wasn’t sure we’d be interested, but we definitely were.
On Monday when she called we couldn’t track him down, but on our way back from reporting on Australia Day in Cassilis we found John resting by the Bunnan Road so stopped by to speak with him.
Keep the ideas coming, it is after all: Your Story, Your News.
