Wagering on Long Term Winner
NOEL Leckie only had a modest wager on Houtzin which won the 2 year old Magic Millions Classic on the weekend, but since he owns the mare which produced the filly he hopes he is on a long term winner.
Noel sold the filly by Yarraman stallion I Am Invincible and dam Set To Unleash at last year’s Magic Millions sale for $105,000.
“I practically gave her away, you certainly wouldn’t buy her for that now,” he laughed.
“I didn’t really need to wager much because it was going to increase the value of my mare quite substantially if she won, so I didn’t really have to bet to win,” he said.
“I have no intention of selling the mare because I’ll send her back to I Am Invincible to breed another sibling and she’ll be going to him for as long as I can see ahead,” he said.
“He is going to become very expensive, but it’s still worth it because she’s a mare that throws a good type and he is a stallion that just gets outstanding types all the time, it’s good when you get the progeny in the sale ring and they look the goods,” he said.
“It is only the mare’s second foal to race, so she hopefully has it all in front of her,” Noel Leckie said.
Houtzin, is now favourite for the Golden Slipper and is trained on the Gold Coast by former Sconeite Toby Edmonds.
