MOST men love spending time in a shed and 35 local men recently took at trip to Quirindi to look through through Bob’s Shed.

Lee Watts Manager of the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre said Bob’s Shed was the envy of any collector.

“…at the general store you will find boxes and tins from the fabulous 40s and 50s., the pub is full of beer cans, bottles, coasters and pub kitsch,” Mrs Watts.

“Two entire rooms are dedicated to Peter Brock, and there are cars, motorbikes and model cars galore”, she said.

The Virtual Shed tour also visited the Rural Heritage Village and Museum, which is designed to collect, preserve, restore, interpret and exhibit artifacts that relate to the history, heritage and culture of the regional area.

Lee Watts said the Virtual Shed had been a very popular local project and while there were more outings planned, the funding for the project finishes in June next year.

“Funded through the Department of Social Services the Virtual Shed project was created to give men in the Upper Hunter Shire the opportunity and a platform to participate and gain information on important health issues that include physical health, mental health, relationships and financial health,” she said.

“Rural men are a part of networking opportunities in the form of workshops, BBQ’s, day trips, resource sharing and guest speakers with a wealth of subject knowledge to empower all men.

“The shed has invited speakers such as Jack Newton, Ahn Do and more recently explosives expert Darren Flanagan to share their lives and experiences.

“Scone and the surrounding areas have been very lucky to have such a program that has helped hundreds of men enjoy a great many events to a range of destinations,” she said.

“It also assisted the establishment of the Scone and Aberdeen Men’s Shed unique places where men can use their skills to help communities or attend to meet and chat with other men,” Lee Watts said.
