Vale: Marion Elaine Norvill
It is with sadness we cover the funeral of regional stalwart Marion Elaine Norvill who passed away October 19 at the Murravale Nursing Home in Murrurundi and was buried this morning.
Mrs Norvill was 94 years of age and was involved in various groups in the district over the years.
Born in Murrurundi on September 17, 1926, she was one of six children of Annie and Issac Batterham.
Ex-Murrurundi newsagent, David Moxon delivered the eulogy saying Ms Norvill was heavily involved in flower and wool shows.
They (she and her husband Mick) were keen tennis players and later in life switched to golf.
Marion founded the Murrurundi and District Garden Club which had its first meeting in 1980. The club is still going strong today.
She represented the club at many functions in the North West Zone and the Upper Hunter and helped organise local garden contests.
She was also instrumental in starting up the Muswellbrook Garden Club.
Mrs Norvill was in the Australian Army Nursing Service training at Melbourne however, the war ended before she got to serve.
She married her husband Mick in 1948 and lived in Blandford until a house was built at Warlands Creek where she lived for the next 65 years.
Mrs Norvill had two boys who were both at the funeral, Robert (Bobby) and Michael and is survived by six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
