Vale: Garnet Lindsay (Kelly) Thrift
The family of Garnet Lindsay “Kelly” Thrift wish to advise that he passed away today:
Garnet died peacefully at Strathearn Village in Scone early this morning celebrating a remarkable life spanning 104 years.
Garnet remained independent and alert when both living alone in his family home until 11 months ago and at Strathearn.
Garnet was a lifelong resident of the Parkville Scone area and throughout 100 years had been an extremely active and passionate lover of the local tennis, cricket and racing clubs.
He was still having his bets placed on the TAB five days ago.
His farming at “Ascot” Parkville led him to market gardening and after his World War 2 Army Service he was involved both in farming and in the Scone business community selling agricultural machinery and vehicles.
Garnet’s wife Barbara Joan Cumberland died in 2000 and Garnet is survived by his two daughters Sandra Holdsworth and Jill Haug and their families.
They are proud of his longevity, his independence and initiative in making the best of every opportunity throughout the Depression, a World War, droughts and technological farming changes.
