Try Rugby a Success
THE game of rugby was put to the test in Scone last night with Scone Junior Rugby Union running a Try Rugby evening.
The club welcomed new players at Scone Rugby Park and ran a session of skills and drills to demonstrate the basics of rugby. The event also coincided with the first training session, with a majority of last year´s players returning for the 2016 season.
Scone Junior Rugby Union President Tor Killman said the Try Rugby session aimed to give newcomers an insight into the game of rugby union.
´´It was great. We had quite a few new kids come down and have a go, especially in the Under 6 age group,´´ he said.
´´We are hoping to attract more players to the club and continue to build the profile of rugby in Scone.´´
Killman said anyone interested in trying rugby is welcome to come to training next Friday April 8 from 5pm.
´´We welcome players of all levels,´´ he said. ´´It´s always a great, social atmosphere down here on a Friday night. The kids train and then enjoy a sausage sizzle and muck around with their mates´´ he said.
Scone Junior Rugby Union competes in the Central North Rugby competition in the Under 6s through to the Under 14s. The first carnival will be held at Walcha on Sunday, May 1 2016.
