Townspeople need to be prepared too
RESIDENTS in Widden Close, Scone thought the country behind them was largely burnt out but were surprised how quickly a spot fire took hold yesterday evening.
Residents were looking at one of the large fires behind Scone Mountain when they noticed a small amount of smoke closer to their fence lines. Within moments the flames were visible, and they called immediately 000.
The Rural Fire Service has warned all residents, even in the township of Scone, to stay vigilant and be prepared for spot fires which can occur quickly spread.
Today and tomorrow are extreme fire danger, with tomorrow predicted to be the most problematic due to stronger wind gusts which may carry embers towards the township.
Ensure you have a fire plan and are ready to act.
