The Muswellbrook District Hospital was established in 1919 and originally known as the Brentwood Hospital. It is a public hospital and is part of the Hunter New England Local Health District.

It is a 46 bed facility with the following services:

• 24 hour emergency department
• acute care
• allied health services
• chemotherapy
• community health centre
• gastroenterology
• maternity services
• ophthamology
• paediatric
• renal dialysis, and
• surgical
