Students Advise on Council Agenda
FROM the mouths of babes, local students had the opportunity to say what they think Council should be doing, when they were Mayor for a Day.
More than 610 students from seven primary schools contributed ideas in essays and postcard drawings with the main issues on their agenda including the environment, more recycling bins, money to help farmers and addressing homelessness.
The winner of Mayor for the Day was Lula Peebles from St Joseph’s Primary School, Merriwa who proposed a town history centre, a sensory garden and a big and blow up cinema for the Merriwa showground.
Noah Gillett from Scone Grammar School was Deputy Mayor who wanted to clean up the parks and sporting fields, raise money for charities and provide jobs for young people.
Postcards depicting the place they find special in the community included the Rock Pools, Scone Museum, town pools and school playgrounds.
