Stock Report: Oct 11
By Stuart Sheldrake
THERE were 917 cattle penned today in a market that was cheaper throughout.
There is an old saying sell your cattle before Melbourne Cup day, so there are quite a few finished cattle hitting the market, so while the prices have pulled back a bit they are still outstanding.
There was a decent offering of cows without being too many.
Bulls and cows were all 10 and 20 cents cheaper and the majority of the yarding was made up of heavier cattle, a lot of cattle with a bit more weight this week compared to what we have seen and very few lighter cattle.
The heavier cattle, especially for secondary lines sold up to 20 cents cheaper and better lines were 10 to 15 cheaper.
Heifers suffered more of a set back in price more so than their steer counterparts for the heavy end they could have been 20 to 25 cents cheaper, whereas steers were 10 or 15 cheaper.
Of the few lighter cattle that were there, there were good heifers to go back onto feed were only 8 to 10 cents cheaper and the steer counterparts were more than that 15 to 20 cents cheaper.
