Stock Report: Mar 01
By Stuart Sheldrake.
There was a very similar yarding to last week with 1,417 cattle at the Scone saleyards today.
The weaner cattle are starting to run as it is starting to dry off and with such a good season seen by these calves over the last six months, we are seeing a significant increase in weaner calf weights.
Average weights would be up 20-30 kilos, maybe more.
The good prices we are experiencing, means more money for our farmers which is good to see.
We saw a good quality offering of cattle penned and a large number of cows and bullocks.
Cows were four to five cents easier, with heavy bullocks firm.
There were fewer export bulls, which sold to a slightly cheaper trend this week, probably the least amount of bulls we have seen recently.
There was a very good offering of trade cattle penned, with yearlings and weaners making up the majority of the yarding.
A good yarding of angus and Europe-cross weaners were penned.
Trade cattle across the board sold to a slightly dearer market, particularly for good lines.
Secondary yearling heifers sold slightly easier.
There will be an induction held for entering and handling stock within the saleyards and conducted over the next few weeks: Safer Scone Saleyards.
