Stock Report: January 16
By Stuart Sheldrake
THERE were approximately 3,300 cattle yarded in Scone yesterday.
Some people can recall a sale in the 1980’s where 3,600 were yarded, but yesterday was the biggest yarding in a lot of years, but the market held up quite well.
There were about 500 cows and they were cheaper by about 15 cents, but overall it wasn’t too bad.
There were a lot of plainer cows and a large number of calves off cows again, but they were stronger because there was a lot of competition out of the New England and they sold to very strong rates.
The rest of the market might have been easier overall, but the market held well.
I think there will be big numbers again next week and they will stay big until it rains or we run out of cattle
