Stock Report: August 27
By Stuart Sheldrake
THERE were approximately 950 cattle yarded at the Scone stock yards yesterday.
The market was mainly firm on the week before.
Good cows were fully firm, plainer cows were a fraction dearer, but a good supply of cows were penned.
In the trade market everything was fully firm again.
Heifers on last week were a cheaper market, lighter heifers were firm to fractionally better for better lines.
Feeder cattle were fully firm.
Butcher calves were light on quality, but what was there were fully firm.
They are talking a shower of rain at the end of the week, I’ll believe it when I see it, but that might tighten things up for a week or two, especially if we did get an inch of rain.
If that was the case numbers would cut in half.
There are more cattle than we thought still around, but people are diving into that supply that they were hoping to keep, which may have a big affect when it does rain, because everyone will close the doors and want to hold onto them.
