Special Screening to Feel Good
THERE are many feel good movies produced, but Aberdeen resident Jaclyn Geerin has arranged for the special screening of a movie to people in our community feel better about themselves.
Jaclyn Geerin is a fitness instructor and said everyday she sees local people who deserve to feel better about their body image.
“My first question when I work with a new person is describe your health, fitness and body shape in one or two words and nobody ever answers about their health and fitness, they go straight to the body shape,” said Ms Geerin.
“More than 25 percent of young people have serious body concerns, 50 percent of 5 to 12 year old’s want to loose weight and 91% of women hate their bodies,” she said.
“Taryn Brumfitt, who made the movie “Embrace” had three kids and wasn’t happy with her body, she worked out and eventually won a bikini competition, but she still wasn’t happy with her body, so she made a documentary about the body image movement and it is the most successful crowd funded movie so far,” she said.
“It is a great movie and I thought we miss out on these types of movies in the country, so I decided to contact the distributor and the Muswellbrook Cinema and see how I could get the movie to screen here.
“They worked out we had to sell 61 tickets to be able to screen it and we are now up to 81 tickets and there are only 24 left to sell,” she said.
“I hope that people will come along for a night out and start the conversation about how we view our bodies,” Jaclyn Geerin said.
