Social: Opening of the Scone Art Prize
LAST night the Scone Art Prize opened this years exhibition attracting art works from throughout the state and art enthusiasts from throughout the district.
Former well known resident Julle Bierling officially opened the exhibition and announced the inaugural Frans Kernker Memorial Prize in honour of his late partner.
“They always used to cheer when Frans walked in here on these days because we would always buy and my house in Sydney has about 15 prize winning pieces that we bought here and I’ve got no more room on the wall,” said Mr Bierling.
“He would have loved to have been here and the way that I can honour his memory is to make a donation to call after him and support local art and encourage more local artists,” he said.
“He was very found of Teresa, so I was so surprised that she won the prize,” he said.
“I now live in Sydney, but I have all these connections in Scone with people I really treasure and my partner and I was so accepted in Scone, that I feel a deep affinity for the community here,” Julle Bierling said.
The art works are on exhibition until September 16: See the Diary for more details.
