Sharing the Dignity in Scone
THE April Dignity Drive is in motion in Scone, with the Scone Medical Practice and the local Commonwealth Bank nominating as collection points for donations of female sanitary items.
Yesterday, items from the Scone Medical Practice were taken to the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre to be distributed to girls and women in the local community and items can also be dropped off there.
Rochelle Courtney, founder of Dignity said often women can’t afford the basic essentials when times are difficult.
“When they cannot have access to the essential feminine products women become extremely resourceful by using wadded up newspaper, or toilet paper, or socks; this should not be happening,” said Ms Courtney.
“The Drive touches on our need to collect 200,000 packets of pads and tampons for the undignified situations so many women have to endure,” she said.
Lee Watts, manager of the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre said she was thankful the donations were staying local.
“We are very fortunate to have such a caring community that are willing to donate sanitary items and give dignity to vulnerable women,” said Ms Watts.
“Especially in a time of drought this really helps many women in our community,” she said.
