Senior’s Week with Transcare
SENIORS week was being celebrated yesterday at TransCare with a cake stall and egg and bacon rolls on Kelly Street, Scone.
Alan Gordon, chief executive officer of TransCare, said it is a great opportunity to display what TransCare can do for the community.
“We are always looking for volunteers and ways to promote our new services, like the bus to the airports from Scone, Aberdeen and Muswellbrook,” said Mr Gordon.
“Also it’s a great way to promote our general services like meals on wheels and our transport locally,” he said.
Mark Frost, captain of the Fire and Rescue-Scone was on hand to promote the service to seniors and other members of the community to change batteries and sometimes the alarms themselves.
“It has been 10 years since the legislation came in about smoke alarms, some homes may need to look at changing not only their batteries but change to a photoelectric smoke alarm,” said Mr Frost.
Smoke alarms have a life span of about 10 years as well” he said.
“Seniors week is good to promote our re-alarm programme, every house where someone sleeps is required by law to have a smoke alarm and we can assist the elderley or disadvantaged to put these in place, service and change the batteries, all you need to do is supply the battery and the alarm” Mark Frost said.
