Seasonal Information

Scone has an annual average maximum temperature of 23.9 degrees, and average minim temperature of 11 degrees.

Winters are very cold, with temperatures known to dive into the minus figures. Visitors should be well-prepared with warm clothing when heading into the area during the Winter months.

There is snowfall at Barrington Tops National Park and State Forest during Winter. This is a stunning sight, when the Tops become shrouded in white.  When planning a trip to the Barrington Tops in Winter, visitors need to be aware of the conditions, and the potential need for car chains, as well as road closures.

Summers in the Upper Hunter can be extremely hot, with temperatures known to soar over 40 degrees.
Popular summer destinations include Lake Glenbawn, when the water level is high, for boating, canoeing, fishing, swimming and water skiing, as well as the Barrington Tops which is around 10 degrees cooler due to the high altitude.  Spring and Summer are spectacular times to visit the Barrington Tops, with the wildflowers and ground orchids on the Polblue Swamp walking track, and the eastern water dragons on rocks around the streams.

The weather during Spring and Autumn is ideal in the Upper Hunter, with crisp mornings and warm days. It is a fantastic time for bushwalking, bird watching, camping, fishing, and touring to the historical sites. The Scone and Upper Hunter Horse Festival is held in Autumn, and is the perfect time to display the rich countryside to visitors.
