Scone Stock Report: Mar 15
By Stuart Sheldrake.
TODAY saw a lighter yarding of 942 head of cattle due to the chance of rain this week and also the cheapening market.
The market was easier across the board.
Very few export cattle were penned, what was yarded was predominantly made up of cows, good cows were probably only 5 to 8 cents cheaper and plainer cows 10 to 12 cents cheaper.
The rest of the yarding was made up mainly of weaner calves and there was a good run of feeder type cattle.
Feeder steers were probably five cents cheaper.
Weaner calves saw some good lines presented, the steer portion was probably 5 to 8 cents cheaper.
However, good Euro-cross heifer calves sold close to firm rates.
Secondary lines of all descriptions suffered the worst fate selling 10 to 15 cents cheaper throughout.
The cheapening market at this stage is really only weather dependent.
If we get good rainfall in the next four to six weeks the market will bounce back to good prices.
The outlook still looks very good for farmers.
