Scone Stock Report: June 5
By Stuart Sheldrake
THERE were 855 cattle yarded yesterday.
A fair number of cows, they numbered about 300 and the balance were trade cattle.
We are starting to see numbers dwindle away because we are running out of cattle in the area.
The market was very ordinary, better cows were 15 cents cheaper, plainer cows were firm and the trade market saw fat calves 10 to 12 cents cheaper and plainer stock 15 to 20 cents cheaper again.
It’s all on the back of the season unfortunately.
We are probably going to start to see these numbers, yarding between 500 to 1,000 cattle
There’s quite a few young cows being sold because people are biting the bullet, obviously if you are going to feed you are going to have to feed through until September at least, because if we get rain now, it’s not going to grow with the cold weather.
And over the last week or two one pellet company you virtually can’t get any product off them anymore so that’s put a bit of a hole in things and one of the other pellet companies their price went significantly through the roof so it makes feeding very costly.
