Scone Stock Report: July 23
By Stuart Sheldrake
THERE was an increased yarding of 1,140 head, due to mainly more cattle coming out based on the very good market last week and the market was strong again.
A good number of cows were penned again and they sold to firm rates, in fact a few plainer cows may have been a fraction dearer, but heavy cows were firm.
There was also a good yarding of yearling and weaner cattle and they were stronger, lighter cattle were firm to slightly dearer, but there were some feeder heifers and steers were another 10 or 15 cents dearer.
We had a really good run of feeder heifers and they were making over $3 a kilo, there were heifers coming back at 360 kilos for $1,100.
It’s been a savior to have some silver linings during a tough time.
It was probably a one off week for numbers off the back of last week and wouldn’t be surprised if we are back to 600 or 700 next week.
There were a few more buyers around, there was a cow buyer from Victoria and a lot of attraction from down south.
They have had some good rainfall from the Riverina and down, which they often do this time of year and with lack of numbers everywhere there is some good demand.
