Scone Stock Report: July 19
By Stuart Sheldrake.
THERE was a light yarding once again only 767 in total.
Very few export cattle were offered and they were five to ten cents cheaper, which was related to the numbers and the quality.
A good number of the cattle yarded were cattle in store condition.
Young weaners were in high demand, probably on the back of the rain we are experiencing and they were ten cents dearer along with also yearling cattle selling to similar rates.
A small number of grain feed finished trade cattle were penned and they were five or six cents cheaper.
An overall look at the market was that the kill cattle were cheaper, but anything to restock were dearer, due to numbers and the weather.
The predictions of further rain across the state is all positive.
The cattle market prices bounce on supply and demand, that is all it is, so if we are looking at the next two or three months being wet the prices of store cattle will remain at similar levels.
However when spring hits feed will get away quite quickly and you could see fat cattle cheaper to what they are at present, but store cattle will remain strong whilst there is a good season about and get cheaper as it dries out.
All of the weaners that were sold in the autumn are on crop at the moment and our season was a little late so you might see the fat cattle push back a little bit in the spring months and into summer.
