Scone Stock Report: Jan 10
By Stuart Sheldrake
878 cattle were penned yesterday in a yarding that was lighter than expected.
Very few export cattle presented although there were a good run of bullocks.
Cows were 10 cents dearer on the previous week with a good run of bullocks making up to 278 cents a kilo.
The majority of the yard was made up of weaner and yearling cattle along with a few good trade cattle and a handful of steers and heifers.
Weaners sold very strongly, especially the heifer portion at 10 to 15 dearer and more in places, steer calves were firm to 5 or 6 cents dearer.
The yearling portion were firm to 5 cents dearer on both steers and heifers, grown steers and heifers were also sold to strong rates.
Over the sales this week the numbers are not there to what we thought, possibly due to the market strength last year and producers taking the money on offer with cattle being sold off younger than normal and also with older cattle being sold.
