Scone Stock Report: Jan 17
By Stuart Sheldrake
THERE was a yarding 1372 cattle, with numbers increasing due to the hot, dry weather.
The yarding consisted mainly of weaner and yearling cattle suitable for restocking and feedlots.
There was a small number of good finished trade cattle and 150 export cattle.
Bulls and cows were four to eight cents dearer, which is due to the lack of supply of export cattle at the moment.
Good finished trade cattle were ten to 15 cents dearer and there were some good lines of weaner steers and heifers, heifers were five to ten cents dearer and steers ten to 15 cents dearer.
There was also a good supply of yearling steers at 300 to 400 kilos on offer and those cattle were ten to 20 cents dearer.
The quality of cattle at the moment is still good coming out of a good spring, but we are seeing cattle stall at this stage with the hot, dry weather.
One good thing about the market is Queensland seem to be receiving pretty good monsoonal rain and will continue to, which should have a good impact on our cattle market heading into the next few months.
In saying that rainfall is needed here, but it is certainly not all doom and gloom.
