Scone Set for Triathlons
THE inaugural event for the Scone Triathlon Club will be held on October 7.
“The first one will be a duathlon, because we figured the pool would be a bit cold for a triathlon straight up,” said Nicky Western.
Nicky Western who has won two age world championships, a national age championship and a few state championships in triathlon said the Club formed due to growing interest in the sport in Scone.
“Last year we had a Scone triathlon training group with about 10 people and we raced in Singleton, Tomaree and the Spark Helmore which is held on the foreshore in Newcastle,” she said.
“There were enough interested that we thought we could have a Club here and open it up to other people who are interested,” she said.
“I’d encourage people to come along and give it a go and if you want to have a couple of people involved in the team, one can do the run and the other can cycle that is great as well, whatever encourages people to come along we’re happy to go with,” she said.
“Any kind of bike is fine as long as it is road worth, so mountain bike, road bike are all fine,” she said.
“The distances are manageable and we’ll have plenty of support out there for people,” Nicky Western said.
People can register with the Club to become a member on the day, or register for one day to try the duathlon.
The first triathlon will be held on November 11.
