Scone Saleyards: Feb 9
Report provided by Stuart Sheldrake.
Today was a very good day.
The market is season driven at the moment, everyone’s got feed and cattle numbers are down, hence the continuation of soaring prices.
There were 1330 cattle penned in a market that saw everything sell to dearer rates, it just keeps getting dearer.
There were similar numbers of export cattle to last week, a similar number of cows and export steers and heifers.
The steers and heifers were firm as were export bulls, but cows rose 5 to 6 cents per kilo.
This yarding was probably a bit plainer overall to last week, but restocking was fierce.
There were quite a number of new orders this week, coming from everywhere.
There were locals as well as quite a few out of the New England and through the north – northwest part of the state.
The New England country has really kicked away now, their country has really just taken off and they are more in the market now than they were before Christmas.
There is plenty of feed around throughout the state and people are looking to restock and there is a big demand for it.
Weaner calves were 5 cents dearer on last week’s quotes.
Yearlings and heavy weight were 10 cents dearer for both steers and heifers.
There was a nice run of lighter weight heifers and steers, calves were between 220 and 250 kilos and they were 10 to 15 cents dearer.
There were a handful of cows and calves offered, which made from $1,700 to $1,900 for cross breeds at various ages.
