Scone RSL Delivers On Community Support
THE Board of the Scone RSL have made a $25,000 donation to buy groceries for the most vulnerable in our community, with the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre will be coordinating the deliveries.
Michael Hollingsworth, chief executive officer of Scone RSL said it is important to help people in our local community stay home.
“Even before the government made their announcements, we made a decision last week to try to keep as many of the vulnerable residents at home as we can,” said Mr Hollingsworth.
“We’ll purchase food for them, Lee (Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre) will coordinate the deliveries and she’s organised for some Council staff to help pack the boxes,” he said.
“We have 50 packs so far from Woolies and we’ll gradually get more out to as many as we can,” he said.
Lee Watts, manager of the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre said the initiative will help many people in the community.
“It is really great to see the RSL help so many of our most vulnerable during this time,” said Ms Watts.
“This allows us to help people in our community who are struggling and we can also help other people who are self-isolating, by picking up their groceries, medications, whatever they need, we are here to help them stay at home and stay safe,” she said.
“This is a stressful time for everyone and in times like this we can pull together as a community to help all of us get through,
“If you can help as a volunteer we’d also love to hear from you,” Lee Watts said.
