SCONE Public School yesterday held their annual Grandparents day.

Deborah Fisher, principal of Scone Public School, said it is one of the biggest days of the year with more than 200 grandparents in attendance.

“This year was very well attended, grandparents day is usually in October but we had it now to coincide with Seniors Week,” said Ms Fisher.

“The activities started with an assembly where the kids have been filming and interviewing each other about what grandparents mean to them, the school leaders spoke and the kinders did the signing choir as well,” she said.

“The kids take their grandparents off to their classrooms for some activities followed by family groups who will read together before finally sharing a picnic lunch” she said.

“Students love this day and really look forward to it, some grandparents have even flown in to attend.

“We put this on a Monday so they were able to travel from afar,” Deborah Fisher said.

“I like that you can share things with your grandparents,” said Zander Seale.

In Kinder KN Ellen Partridge spent some time with grand daughter Halle King.

Halle had done a drawing of special treasures in their lives, a ring for Nanny’s treasure and Halle’s “nigh nigh” bedtime toy for her treasure.

Ellen Partridge said she loved grandparents day, “It’s wonderful to spend time with your grand child and let them know they are special”.

For Halle food and Nanny are important, “I love cooking cupcakes with Nanny, especially the icing and the sprinkles” she said.

“We get to see a new side of the kids,” Mr Turner said.

For Dustin grandparents day meant freedom, “I get to walk anywhere I want and I get spoiled when Mardi and Pardi are here.”

Chellsea said, “I get lots of money to spend from Mardi and Pardi.”
