Scone Man Killed at Jerry’s Plains
AT approximately 10pm on Saturday night, Christopher Lambkin a 27 year old from Scone, was driving a Holden Commodore sedan west on the Golden Highway and was three kilometres north of Jerry’s Plains when his car left the road and collided with a power pole.
Bypassers went to the assistance of Mr Lambkin, but he died at the scene.
Mr Lambkin had just left a party and was returning to Scone when the accident occurred.
The car veered off the left hand side of the road, colliding with a guide post, continued for 80 metres on the grass verge before re-entering the road, then re-entering the roadway while rotating clockwise direction through 90 degrees.
The car continued for another 65 metres before leaving the road and colliding with a power pole.
The impact occurred with the rear of the car and was so severe the power pole entered the vehicle cabin to a point in line with rear of the front seats.
The highway was closed in both directions until 3am on Sunday.
Forensic services are still investigating, but it is believed speed was a factor and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
NSW Police Inspector Guy Guiana extends his sympathies to the family of Mr Lambkin and encourages all drivers to stay safe on our roads.
“Accidents can occur so easily, so it is crucial that we drive to the conditions of the road and adhere to the speed limits,” Inspector Guiana said.
“In the run up to the June long weekend there will be double demerit points in place to compel drivers to drive safely on our roads, but if you don’t get home the trauma that effects your friends and families is tragic,” he said.
“Please stay safe on the roads and take your time, especially in the lead up to the June long weekend when there are so many more people on the road,” Inspector Guy Guiana said.
