Scone Golf Report: Oct 20-23

IT was a warm day for the golfers at Scone on Saturday, October 23. A field of fifty eight players contested an 18 Hole Stableford sponsored by Paul McLoughlin. With freshly mown fairways and plenty of run the scores were very good.
The best round of the day was by Mikey Carmody who had 44 points. This won him the C Grade prize and a significant handicap reduction. The next best scores were by three players who had 38 points but only Michael Robinson was in the winners’ circle claiming A Grade. The B Grade prize was won by Gordon Halliday with 37 points.
Wes Boyd equaled his own “Best Score with Preferred Lies” having another fine round of 68.
The NTP’s were won by Matt Hobbs on the 4th at 4.2 metres, Wes Boyd on the 8th at 3.45 metres, Mick Alsleben on the 13th at 1.88 metres and Justin Smart on the 17th at 4.14 metres.
The ball winners were: Mikey Carmody 44, Michael Robinson, Wes Boyd, Adam Brayshaw 38, Trevor Wilson, Tony Pringle, Mick Alsleben, Gordon Halliday, Ross Banks, Mary Ellen Brennan 37, Andrew Parry-Okeden, Justin Smart, Joel Woods 36, Daryl Dutton 35, Charlie Wintle, Dan Malone, Warren Styles, Julie Leckie 34, Charlie Manning 33, Garry Carter, Lindsay Hodge, Jim Elder, David Druce 32 and Tom Thompson 31 points on a countback from George Campbell, Stuart Dawson, Geoff Barton and June Jukes.
On Thursday, October 21, the ladies also had some very good scores recorded. They played an 18 Hole Stableford sponsored by Cassie Fisher Designs with a field of nineteen players.The winner on a countback was Joan Faras who had 38 points. The runner up prize went to Noreen Marshall who also had 38 points.
Balls were won by: Joan Faras, Noreen Marshall 38, Barb Hobbs, Julie Leckie, Louise Mathews 37, Mandy Fisher, Mary Ellen Brennan, Susan Williams 35 and Lexie Polin 33 points.
The NTP on the 13th was won by Barb Hobbs.
One of the major events on the ladies golfing program was completed with the playing of the final of the Marshall Singles Knockout Handicap Match Play event. In its forty ninth playing, a very close contest ensued with June Jukes defeating Dordie Bragg 3&2 to win the event for her first time.
The Wednesday competition had ten players with the winner being Paul McLoughlin who had 37 points. The ball winners were Paul McLoughlin 37, Michael Robinson, Wes Boyd 36, Ross Banks and Glen Tarrant 35 points on a countback from Lyn Banks and Jake Teague.
Events at Scone Golf Club this week include:
- the Wednesday Medley Stableford competition on October 27.
- On Thursday, October 28, the ladies will play an 18 Hole Stroke / Stableford for the last Monthly Medal of the season sponsored by Melanie’s Jewellers and Mitani Café. Also on offer is the “Wine O’clock Putting” sponsored by Julie Leckie.
- On Saturday, October 30 the men will enjoy the novelty of playing from the Red Tees, with appropriate handicap adjustments, whilst the ladies in the field will play from there as usual. The event will be an 18 Hole Individual and 2 Ball Stableford sponsored by Brad Baker.
