Scone Golf Report: March 15-21

IT was an ideal day for golf at Scone on Thursday March 19. The lady golfers played an 18 Hole Stroke / Stableford which was a Mystery 2 Ball BAM event sponsored by Lyn Banks. It was also the first Monthly Medal sponsored by Melanie’s Jewellers.
In the novel event where cards were randomly drawn after play and 6 holes each of Best Ball, Aggregate and Multiplier scoring was applied, the winners were Beryl Phelps and Lyn Banks on 48 points. Lyn kindly re-donated her prize to the runners up Louise Mathews and Pam Manning who finished on 47 points.
Balls were allocated on individual scores and went to Lyn Banks 38, Pam Manning 32, Cheryl Clydsdale 28 and Catherine Russell 26 points. Kathy Robinson won the NTP on the 13th hole.
In the Monthly Medal and Round 1 of the Golf NSW Medal event, Lyn Banks was the clear winner with a fine round of 70 nett.
In the Hunter River District Ladies Pennant round 2 was played at The Vintage on Monday, March 16. The team had a good win over Hunter Valley 3½ to 1½. Lyn Banks, Dordie Bragg and Kerry McLennan all had wins with Cheryl Clydsdale squaring her match. Julie Leckie and Jodie Hinde were defeated. The competition has since been suspended and with 2 wins from 2 matches the team is looking forward to its resumption when viable.
On Thursday, March 26, an 18 Hole Stableford is scheduled sponsored by The Thoroughbred. It is also Round 1 of The Thoroughbred annual event in which players record their best 2 out of 3 rounds.
Julie Leckie and Lyn Banks will head to Branxton on Tuesday March 24 for their Open Day, whilst on Saturday March 28 the first round of the Interclub Challenge with Muswellbrook will be played at Muswellbrook Golf Course.
On Saturday, March 21 an 18 Hole Individual Stableford and 2 Ball Multiplier was played in lovely golfing conditions. A strong field of 47 players which included three visitors, benefited from prizes sponsored by Scott Shann and Duncan Yuille. The winners were Brenan Reeves and Brad Hockley who combined to have 73 points, 9 points ahead of two other pairs Luke Stevens & Adam Brayshaw and Garry Carter & David Bradshaw.
Matt Hobbs was the individual winner on a countback from Brad Hockley when they both had 39 points.
It was also Round 2 of the R. J. Lowrie Cup which was won by Ross Banks on 78 points with rounds of 42 and 36. Brad Hockley was second on 73 points. In a good day Ross also defeated Matt Langan in the final of the Mal Bruce Summer Knockout.
The NTP’s went to David O’Donnell on the 8th at 3.05 metres, and to Mick Alsleben on the 17th at 4.56 metres. Dan Malone now has a favourite hole taking the other two NTP’s with 1.76 metres on the 4th and a jackpot at 0.54 metres on the 13th which gained him a bonus of five balls.
Balls were won by: Brad Hockley, Matt Hobbs 39, David Druce, Daryl Dutton 38, Ross Banks, Garry Carter 36, Phil McGuirk 35, Adam Brayshaw, Charlie Wintle 34, Luke Stevens, Brenan Reeves, George Davidson, Robert Ryan 33, Jake Teague, Duncan Yuille, Jeff Harrington 32, Neil Clydsdale, Scott McNeil and Dan Malone 31 points on a countback from Steve Morse and David Adams.
On Saturday, March 28 an 18 Hole Stableford is scheduled to be played from the white tees, sponsored by Ross and Lyn Banks.
As with the ladies Pennant series, the men’s Hunter River District Pennant has been suspended.
In the Yellow Tee Challenge played on Wednesday, March 18 the winner was Mick Poole who had 23 points, Robert Ryan was runner up on 21 points.
